Exam Ready Courses

Knowledge ready courses focus on the key topics that students need to learn for their exams, the ones which get tested most often and are worth the most marks. For foundation students the focus is on Number, ratio and proportion, as the exam is 40% based on these topics. For higher tier, the focus is more on Algebra and problem solving, as well as mathematical proof and high level geometry. On knowledge ready courses, students have access to a wide range of question types, from basic practice to unstructured exam style questions which will really test the depth of their knowledge, so will improve students’ knowledge no matter what their start point is.

Students will receive one hour’s tuition per week, with resources provided for extra practice and video tutorials to use at home. Each course lasts six weeks. Please find details below of the topics students will cover:

Geometry

Students will cover:

  • Area & perimeter of polygons
  • Circles
  • Pythagoras & trigonometry
  • Angles & bearings
  • Volume & surface area
  • Transformations
Algebra

Students will cover:

  • Basic algebra Skills

(collecting like terms & forming expressions)

  • Basic algebra skills (Multiplying terms, expanding & factorising)
  • Formulae & substitution
  • Forming & solving equations
  • Sequences
  • Straight line graphs
Statistics

Students will cover:

  • Averages
  • Displaying data
  • Pie charts & scattergraphs
  • Single event probability
  • Multiple event probability
  • Venn diagrams & set notation
