Research shows that, out of all the options available to parents, small group tutoring has the biggest positive impact on student attainment, but only if its done right.
Students need to be put in the right environment to succeed; Feeling comfortable and confident enough to contribute to the group, with sessions that offer a good amount of support when they need it, as well as challenging work that stretches them.
Our learning centre in Whitley Bay, offers easy group tutoring to students at all levels, from Primary all the way up to GCSE. The sessions are delivered by well qualified tutors, and there is always a fully qualified teacher on hand to help when needed. The group size will never be more than 4 students and should never be less than 2, so students get a lot of individualised help, as well as enjoying all the benefits of working together with their friends.
Trying to explain why our easy group tutoring sessions work so well is as easy as 1-2-3:
1. Small tailored groups of no more than 4 students
When the student joins our program, we meet them beforehand to assess their current attainment level and personality. We then slot them into a small group which is exactly appropriate for them. If there isn’t a slot available, we will wait until one comes up or start a new small group. We never put a student into a group which isn’t right for them
2. Fair pricing
We keep our session price low, so that students can have their regular sessions without putting too much strain on the family’s finances. Regular sessions are key and this is only achievable with a reasonable price
3. Sessions delivered in person
There is no substitute for being in the same room as your tutor. These sessions tend to be more engaging for the student and more rewarding for the tutor. We experimented with remote group tutoring sessions, but they just weren’t rewarding for the student or teacher, so we stopped them!
So how do the easy group tutoring sessions work?
Initial assessment – When students register their interest, we will invite them and their parent along to the centre for an initial assessment. During this session, we will assess strengths and weaknesses in the key topics, then add them to the existing small group that’s right for them
Weekly sessions – All groups have learning objectives that they are working towards. The tutor will assess their attainment towards these objectives during the sessions as well as in their homework tasks. When all students have met these objectives, the group advance and work towards the next set of objectives. If one student progresses faster than the others, they can move up independently and change groups to one that is more suitable too
Monthly reports – Tutors will report to parents each month, detailing the topics covered, how well the student has progressed and an effort score.
Weekly sessions cost just £24.50 and our next groups will be starting imminently.
